Today I am going to show you a fun project that I have done this week with my students in the group Kids 1.
As we are going through the unit related to the house and its parts, I thought it would be a good idea to stimulate students’ creativity and get them to ‘build’ their own house. All of them like drawing and doing DIY projects, which is why they showed a great deal of enthusiasm.
The first step to ‘build’ our house is taking a white sheet of paper. You will have to fold it in half, joining up the corners to make it perfect so that it does not affect the final structure of the house.
Once we have folded the paper, we will have to turn the paper so that the open side is at the bottom, leaving the folded part on top. Then, we will have to fold it again, but this time we will only pinch the paper in the middle, in order to mark the middle of the paper.
After that, we will have to fold the two sides of the paper to the vertical middle, where we have done the mark before. Once we have a rectangle that opens like a window, we have to open it again, going back to step 2, in which the paper is folded and the open part is at the bottom of the paper. As you see, we have made several marks on our paper, these will help us finish our house shape very easily. Having our paper back to step 2, we will only have to push down the top right and left corner (where it is folded), so we will be doing a triangle shape with the upper part of our paper.
… And now it is time to colour! The rooms will be separated thanks to the different folding marks, so there will be space to include one bedroom, the hall and main door, the kitchen and the garage -while the house is closed- and, once we open, we will have a big living room, and a dining room and a bathroom on the sides.
I also created little signs with the name of the room, which the students glued once they finished. You could also include some little signs with the names of the different pieces of furniture that are characteristic of a specific room.

HAZLO TÚ MISMO: partes de la casa
Hoy os voy a enseñar un proyecto divertido que he hecho esta semana con mis estudiantes del grupo Kids 1.
Como estamos tratando la unidad relacionada con la casa y sus partes, pensé que sería una buena idea estimular la creatividad de los estudiantes y hacer que ‘construyeran’ su propia casa. A todos les gusta dibujar y hacer actividades manuales (DIY), por ello mostraron gran entusiasmo.
El primer paso para ‘construir’ nuestra casa es tomar un folio de papel blanco. Tendrás que doblarlo a la mitad, uniendo las cuatro esquinas para hacerlo perfecto y que no afecte a la estructura final de la casa.
Una vez doblado el papel, tendremos que girarlo de manera que la parte abierta quede hacia abajo, y dejando el doblez en la parte de arriba. Después, tendremos que doblarlo de nuevo, pero esta vez solo pellizcaremos en medio del papel para hacer una marca.
Después, tendremos que doblar los dos lados del papel hacia la mitad vertical del folio, donde hemos hecho la marca anteriormente. Una vez que tengamos un rectángulo que se abre como una ventana, tendremos que abrirlo de nuevo, volviendo al paso 2, en el que el papel esta doblado a la mitad y la parte abierta hacia abajo. Como podéis ver, hemos hecho varias marcas en nuestro papel, estas nos ayudarán a terminar la forma de nuestra casa muy fácilmente. Teniendo nuestro papel de vuelta al paso 2, solamente tendremos que empujar las esquinas superiores izquierda y derecha hacia abajo (donde esta doblado) de manera que estaremos hacienda una forma triangular con la parte superior de nuestro papel.
…Y ahora ¡a colorear! Las habitaciones estarán separadas gracias a las diferentes marcas de los dobleces, así que habrá espacio para incluir un dormitorio, el pasillo con la puerta de entrada, la cocina y la cochera –cuando la casa esta cerrada- y, una vez que esté abierta, tendremos un gran salón, con un comedor y un baño a los lados.
También elaboré pequeños letreros con el nombre de la habitación, que los estudiantes pegaron cuando terminaron de colorear. Podríais también incluir algunos pequeños letreros con los nombres de los distintos muebles que son característicos de cada habitación.
Espero que todos tengáis algo de tiempo para hacer este proyecto tan creativo y reviséis algo de vocabulario que es muy útil.
