EVERY JOURNEY NEEDS A FIRST STEP

Hello everyone!

Recently our Teens 3 group has been studying a fascinating topic; it is about travel and holidays – who doesn’t like travelling? In this lesson they have learnt common words and phrases connected with travel and transport. I love dealing with activities that capture and hold teens’ interest. Of course, the aim is to inspire and engage the students and activate learning across all four skills.

They especially liked the part about imagining visiting new places and doing activities they hadn’t done before, so, why not making plans for an adventure week?

I asked them to decide where they wanted to go and what activities they could do in each place. In order to activate students and get them ready for the activity, I began by providing them with some colorful and creative recycled cards.

In this satisfying classroom learning experience, we had in mind some relevant points that play an important role when planning a trip, such as: destination, means of transport, where to stay, things to do, etc.

Students put into practice new vocabulary, structures and expressions such as: That’s a great idea! , How about…?, why don’t we…?, never mind…

It’s a deal!

As I feel great enthusiasm for teaching lessons that foster tolerance and promote peace, after planning the adventure week, I spoke about some other relevant aspects: personal values and cultural diversity. From a pedagogical point of view, it was a good opportunity to reflect upon ways in which we can build a more inclusive world. So, I asked to talk about important values to have in mind when travelling in a group to different countries and they wrote on small cards key words such as: friendship, love, respect, freedom, collaboration. Look how our students decorated the classroom with the cards!!!

It was a total blast!!!

English is a great tool to promote tolerance, justice and respect among our students.
