Hello everyone!
In this post I have decided to dedicate some time to one of the youngest groups I am teaching this school year, Kids 5.
Learning new vocabulary
Recently we have been studying about senses. My pupils especially liked the part about ‘taste’ and ‘smell’. And when they saw a photograph of a pizza, they were in seventh heaven. They all imagined having one for dinner and immediately wanted to learn how to prepare one by themselves. I could feel it in my bones that they would love the topic. While they were reading the recipe, they found out how to write one in English and learnt some useful vocabulary, such as ingredients, garnish, cutlery.
Acquiring skills
The next step was putting newly learnt vocabulary into practice. Let’s order some pizzas! The pupils were thrilled when they had to phone and choose the ingredients for their favourite pizza. It was a really useful and practical exercise as now they are able to have a conversation through the phone and order some food.
And for dessert…
…blueberry muffins! Who doesn’t like them? They make children’s mouth water. Almost entirely on their own they prepared a recipe for this delicious dessert in English. And the result was amazing!
For eager beavers
As some of the students are keen on art, their homework was to draw their favourite pizza or the one they ordered on the phone. The result took my breath away!
Remember that learning English can be and is fun!
